Lost and Found Edition at Artisbibliotheek, May 2013. An evening of stray images; an artist hunting for volcanoes, a musician playing the violophone, a tour through the extraordinary collection on the history of zoology and botany by the library curator, an artist exploring the power of the imagination as a substitute for traveling, a found herbarium, seminal fluids, a moonbow and more.
March, 2013. Surveillance is a ‘life & site-specific’ project by Lotte Geeven and Yeb Wiersma hosted at West, The Hague. For this project Lotte Geeven & Yeb Wiersma have formed a temporary team, with which they will claim a part of two The Hague districts around West as their working and research area. In the course of a month, this area of about one square kilometre will become a dynamic space, in which the mechanism of observing is scrutinized in a rough manner with various interventions and using a script that is composed of seven life & site-specific acts. The borderline between acts and reality will be desultory or invisible for the passers-by.
'Doublethink' is a central concept in Surveillance. It represents a mental and physical domain in continuous motion; staggering stroboscopically between authority and autonomy, between control and wilderness. This twilight zone is where the artists will operate.

Surveillance. Project in 7 acts by Lotte Geeven and Yeb Wiersma, Galerie West, The Hague, March & April 2013.

Interview Mister Motley 'De vonk in de motor' on Surveillance project;
'Surveillance vindt plaats binnen het kader van één maand en een gemarkeerd gebied van pakweg een vierkante kilometer rondom 'West' in Den Haag. Hierbinnen wijzen we de bewoners en passanten op de mogelijkheid om te allen tijde te onderhandelen over mentale en fysieke beweegruimte binnen het publieke domein. Dit project pleit voor gescherpte zintuigen en een autonome positie ten opzichte van de omgeving. Binnen de grenzen van dit gebied, gemarkeerd met een lijn van bladgoud, hebben we een reeks van abrupte verstoringen geregisseerd. Zeven in totaal, waarvan we inmiddels nog twee hebben te gaan. Wat wij de mensen voorschotelen lijkt erg op de realiteit: alles zou “in het echt” ook kunnen gebeuren, maar de maat en vorm van de ingrepen zijn dusdanig afgemeten en geregisseerd dat het de aandacht trekt. Wanneer je alle acts combineert, voel je als inwoner wel dat er iets aan de hand is. Wat precies wordt niet duidelijk, maar er broeit wel iets.'

Act Nr. 4. The Porcelain Room. Lotte Geeven and Yeb Wiersma visit The Peace Palace in The Hague, being accompanied by a basketball. Even lying still; the ball appears dangerously dynamic. The next step will be to negotiate the permanent presence of the basketbal in the different international court rooms. Work in progress.
