Any Minute Now, Something Will Happen¹

WORK: Short Film² - Sightseeing Bus Tour - 8 Postcards³ - Soundtrack - Commission: City Council Almere / Museum De Paviljoens Almere. Collaboration: Vanessa Hudig + Yeb Wiersma, 2004

Driving through the freshly built suburban area of Tussen de Vaarten - City of Almere - Hudig & Wiersma felt like they had landed on a desolate film set. During working hours there was hardly any activity going on in the public domain. Where and Who are these new residents who just moved in? What are the stories that take place inside their homes? 'Any minute now, something will happen'[..]

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk [2]

All residents of the neighborhood were invited to join the artists Hudig and Wiersma on a free bus tour. During the tour Vanessa Hudig would sing the especially composed soundtrack live on the bus. While Hudig was singing, the passengers were given the opportunity to meet their neighbors and to look outside; at their own stage, their own lives, in real time.

Zwevend boven dit urbane decor bezingt Vanessa Hudig a la Aimee Mann de levens achter de gevels […] 'He notices her staring / at spilled milk on the floor / running of white rivers'. En na ieder couplet volgt die bezwerend-bevrijdende punchline: 'Any Minute Now, Something Will Happen'. – Edo Dijksterhuis, NRC Handelsblad, 04.

In Broad Daylight - Photo Series
Exhibition: FOAM - Amsterdam, 2004

Returning to the city from a residency period in the Swiss mountain region Engiadina Bassa I was hungry for solitary wanderings.
The photo series In Broad Daylight explore my search for Wilderness within the urban environment of Amsterdam.

For the exhibition at the FOAM photography Museum I installed 15 photo prints in the library and hallways of the museum. On every picture you can see me appearing or disappearing into urban green. Like a treasure hunt the audience had to search for me closely. Within the exihibition and the images itself. On some of them I wasn't visible, although present. - special thanks: Maarten van Boven.

Storyville Workshops:
Exercises in Playing + Storytelling
[07-10]

Over the past few years I have hosted several outdoor workshops for inner city children. Together we re-interpreted our urban playgrounds. Most of these areas are prefabricated and designated - The workshops are an attempt to challenge their wild thinking and reclaim territories. Especially Wastelands - Green Patches - Building Sites - Open Spaces offer children precious tools to roam around.

Inspired by Francois Truffaut's movies like 'L'Enfant Sauvage' and 'L'Argent de Poche' and by landscape architect Louis Le Roy. - who is known for his Wild City Gardening. His projects show a diverse and rich ecology due to lack of too much human interference. 'It's about finding this delicate balance between controlling and letting go'.¹

1. De Efteling is the oldest amusement park of The Netherlands illustrating sagas and fairy tales. - Approach for this work was to offer a more ambigious and inward gaze towards how we perceive and contextualize our fantasy.
Years later I photographed the same young woman holding the book she was reading: A Severed Head by Iris Murdoch. Photograph turns into bookcover for dito book title. Part of ongoing personalised book cover series called: If I Were A Story. Thanks to Nina van Hartskamp. [2010]
